With the development of the Internet in recent years, users can not only quickly access the information through the virtual communities, but also interact with other users, share experiences and exchange knowledge regardless of time and location. Social capital theory has been proposed by many scholars in order to discuss the issues of knowledge management, and explain the knowledge sharing behavior in virtual community. Therefore, this study aims at investigating the relationships between knowledge quality, user’s satisfaction and knowledge contribution in virtual community from the perspective of the social capital theory.
This study conducted a questionnaire survey from the members of Taiwan Backpakers.com online community. The research results reveal that: (1) “Norm of reciprocity” of relational capital, “shared language” and “shared vision” of cognitive capital all have significant and positive effects on knowledge quality of the virtual community. (2) “Knowledge quality” of the virtual community has a significant and positive effect on user’s “satisfaction”. (3) User’s “satisfaction” has a significant and positive effect on “knowledge contribution”. Therefore, if members of a virtual community have common values, goals and vision, they will help each other, share knowledge and have good interaction with other members. Users who are satisfied with the virtual community will be more motivated to participate in knowledge contribution.
