Knowledge Integration is the most important issue for planning and executing enterprise projects. Many previous studies have focused on the knowledge integration processes within organizations, and have neglected the knowledge integration process for cross-organizational projects. However, IT outsourcing projects are characterized as cross-organizational projects and the cooperation between companies needs to be taken into account.
The main purpose of the study is to explore the relational perspeictve of cross organizational knowledge integration mechanisms in terms of Social Capital Theory (including the dimentions of Structure, Cognitive and Relation). Also, the information security outsourcing projects have been targeted as they are now of critical importance to firms. Drawing on three cases of Enterprise-Digital Rights Management (E-DRM) System implementation projects, this study aims to explore the processes and mechanisms of cross-organizatioal knowledge integration.
Based on evidence from our analysis, this study proposes eight cross-organizatioal mechanisms including 「Initiation Route」、「Consolidate Structure」、「Interaction Focalization」、「Gap Curtailment」、「Meaning Tunnel」、「Situation Communication」、「Relative Foundation」 and 「Objective Synchronization」. The interrelationships between these mechanisms are also suggested.
